How To Make Buckwheat Tea?
Buckwheat Tea Recipe
Equipment
- Small Saucepan
- Fine Mesh
- Paper Towel/Coffee Filter
Ingredients
- ½ -¼ Cup Uncooked Buckwheat Groats
- 5 Cups Of Water
- 2 – 3 tbsp Lemon Juice
- 3 – 4 tbsp Maple Syrup Or Honey According To Your Preference
Instructions
- Assemble all the ingredients first. Then take a small saucepan, and add the uncooked buckwheat groats in order to toast them properly over medium-high heat for about 4 – 5 minutes. You need to toast it until it smells fragrant and begins to pop. Give it a stir often to not let it burn and turn black.
- Next, you have to carefully add water. It will start to boil immediately because you are adding water to an extremely hot pan.
- Now, reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5 – 10 minutes. Make sure that the buckwheat is soft and cooked, and that the water has developed a light brown color.
- Take a fine mesh and carefully strain the toasted buckwheat through it right into the mug. If you do not prefer a cloudy tea, line the sieve with a paper towel or a coffee filter. Also, do not allow the buckwheat to sit in hot water for a very long time as it has an absorbing ability, so most of the water will be absorbed.
- To add taste, stir in the maple syrup or honey.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
- You need to adjust the amount of water and buckwheat tea according to your preference. For example, for a strong buckwheat flavor, you can use ¼ cup of buckwheat groats, or else ½ buckwheat groats would be completely fine.
- If you are making the tea from the leaves or flowers, just add 1 tbsp of buckwheat tea and let it steep for 5-10 minutes.
- If you like to have it cold, you can just let it cool down and refrigerate it. Even a few ice cubes can be added to make the perfect iced buckwheat tea.
- To enhance the flavor of buckwheat tea, you can add spices such as a cinnamon stick, a dried star anise, a pinch of turmeric, dried cloves, or grated ginger. It depends on whatever flavor you prefer to be added to your buckwheat tea.
