Hello guys! So, today we are going to make orange halwa, a super delicious dessert recipe that is made out of all my favorite ingredients — ghee, semolina, orange pulp & juice, & dry fruits!
The orange halwa is actually a creative version of the general semolina/suji halwa and it turned out really well! This halwa recipe is said to have originated from Nagpur, Maharashtra, which is popular for its oranges.
In general, people only use orange zest & juice to make the halwa but I have also used orange pulp in this recipe to make it more flavorful. Let’s get into the recipe now!
How To Make Orange Halwa?
Orange Halwa Recipe
Equipment
- Medium-Sized Pan
- Deep Skillet
Ingredients
- 200 ML Ghee
- 10 – 12 Pieces Of Almonds
- 10 – 12 Pieces Of Cashew
- 100 Grams Semolina Suji
- 100 Grams Sugar
- 400 Grams Of Orange Pulp
- 3 – 4 tbsp Saffron Milk
- 2 tsp Cardamom Powder
- Orange Juice As Per Your taste
- 8 – 10 Pieces Of Pistachio
Instructions
For Making The Orange Pulp
- Start with peeling the oranges and then removing the seeds properly.
- After that chop the orange segments into smaller bits and add them into a blender.
- Blend it properly to get that pulpy consistency. You can also add a little water to help them blend properly. Remember not to add excess water as it will become juicy.
For Making The Orange Halwa
- First, take a medium-sized pan and heat it. Then add ghee followed by almonds and cashews. Cook for 30 to 40 seconds.
- Next, add suji and store well. Allow the suji to get cooked and have that crunchy type of texture.
- Now add cardamom powder followed by saffron milk into the pan. Combine everything properly and turn off the heat.
- Take another deep skillet and heat it. Add orange pulp and stir well.
- Add the sugar and mix well. Cook properly to let the sugar melt and let the mixture come to a boil.
- Next, add the orange pulp mixture to the suji and combine well.
- Continuously cook the orange halwa on medium to high flame to enable the water to evaporate entirely.
- Your orange halwa is prepared. To garnish, just add some orange juice & chopped dry fruits on top of it and enjoy!
Notes
- You can also use brown sugar instead of using white sugar for a healthier option.
- Adjust the proportion of orange pulp to balance the sweetness according to your preference.
- In some cases, suji tends to absorb more water. So, you will have to add water to the halwa as per the softness you want.
- Also, you can store the orange pulp for about 1 or 2 days.
Conclusion
This orange halwa is super easy to make and adding orange to the halwa makes it more interesting. The orange color looks so vibrant because of the saffron & orange pulp. Plus, it is flavorful, filling, light, super healthy, and delicious. It has a tangy yet sweet taste but the zesty flavor will just take over everything. This is the perfect recipe for any occasion or you can simply enjoy it after the meal with your family as a delicious dessert.
